The Czech University of Life Sciences Prague enables, through the University of the Third Age, seniors to spend actively their free time, to refresh their knowledge and add some new information, to discuss various topics with leading experts, and spend pleasant moments in the quiet environment of the university grounds. There is also opportunity to meet new friends among persons of the same age.
In individual programmes of the University of the Third Age, the students obtain new information on economics, agronomy, forest-landscaping, engineering, agriculture and the economies of the tropics and subtropics, and on education. This knowledge and skills can improve the quality of the seniors' life, extend their mental and physical activities, provide intergeneration dialogue, and help find a new confidence and meaning of life.
Study at the University of the Third Age is not a substitute for comprehensive university education. Graduates receive a Certificate of Completion not an academic degree. The curriculum offered to seniors provides general interest, and non-professional education at the University level for people of advanced age.
The requirement for admission to the University of the Third Age at CZU is an application for age over 50 years, and secondary education completed by a school-leaving examination.
Participants do not have the legal status of a student. However, during their study they may use facilities within the university grounds such as the library, computer lab (internet), swimming pool, and others.
The lecture series are designed generally for two years (i.e. four semesters); some courses are repeated every semester. Each semester consists of 10 to 12 lectures. Teaching is usually supplemented with educational excursions or workshops. The completed study is officially ended at the CZU auditorium, where seniors receive Certificates.
The Coordination Centre of the University of the Third Age covers the University of the Third Age at CZU.
